India: Genetically Modified Seeds, Agricultural Productivity and Political Fraud

March 24, 2013

The world doesn’t need “modern technology” of poisonous pesticides, destructive fertilizers and patented GE seeds that can’t match 1890 or even 1760 AD yields in India. Modern technology has actually destroyed the nutrition in common foods.

Manmohan Singh and Sharad Pawar have been advancing their pseudo-scientific vision of productivity growth through the Gene revolution based on Genetically Engineered [GE] seeds. [1] Their faith in Monsanto scripted New Gospel is akin to that of any religious fundamentalist. Both need tutoring in Agronomy and Supply Chain Management but the problem is that unhinged minds can’t be tutored.
Few notable exceptions aside, majority of agricultural scientists under the spell of Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan also believe that our farmers are unscientific, primitive and must adopt “modern technology.”
The gangsters who pushed the failed Green Revolution are now advancing the failed Gene Revolution techno-fix. They reject any evidence based science that undermines their faith in the New Gospel. High on Monsanto opiate, they have chosen to ritually genuflect to the eugenicists, the Global Chemical, Food and Seed Cartel who have weaponized food. Without objective appraisal of traditional Indian agriculture they continue to discredit Indian farmers like the old colonialists did. If Indian farm practices had “stagnated for centuries” and caused hunger, malnutrition and poverty the ancestors of these scientists would be dead.

Does the Sky Look Unnatural Where You Live ? Have You Ever Wondered Why?

Bringing the critical issue of global climate engineering to light and to a halt is the great imperative of our time. In order to have any reasonable chance of succeeding in this all important battle, all of us are needed to join the fight. Each of us can gain ground every single day in this effort by spreading and sharing credible introductory information with individuals, organizations, and media, that would care if they only knew of the issue and had a dose of solid data to go on. The introduction article below was drafted for the use of the public relations firm which is helping us with media exposure for the Geoengineering Watch Legal Team. This letter can be used by anyone to help with the effort to start "spot fires" of awareness everywhere possible. The more such an introduction to geoengineering is forwarded groups, organizations, media, and individuals (that, again, would care if they knew of the issue), the sooner we will reach a critical mass of awareness. If we all combine our efforts in this battle, we can yet make a profound difference even at this late hour.

An Introduction To Geoengineering/Solar Radiation Management

As President Obama publicly rallies world leaders to move forward with a global response to climate change, a less discussed, but ongoing effort has long since been underway to attempt the management of solar radiation through the spraying of light scattering aerosols into the atmosphere and the direct manipulation of weather patterns — a process otherwise known as “geoengineering.”

Monsanto Transgenic Pipeline is a Treadmill

One of the most widely circulated of all the criticisms of the Green Revolution is backed by decades of research. This research demonstrates that "improved" hybrids require a high input regime that places the farmer on the "fertilizer and pesticide treadmill."

Once the "modernizing" farmer gets on the agro-industrial chemical treadmill, the entire agroecosystem begins to behave like a drug addict. Eventually, the effectiveness of this chemical addiction unravels and the entire land organism falls apart in frenzied bouts of entropy.

Have you ever seen a field that was abandoned to blowing winds, rocks,  sand, and weeds after four decades of monoculture chemical farming? It looks like a desert: Worst, since deserts have bountiful life in their nooks and crannies. The wasted fields of the Green Revolution that I have seen are barren stretches of lifeless Earth marked by salt leach piles and exposed plow pans.

For Your Own Good! Embedding Transnational Agribusiness And GMOs Into African Agriculture Under the Veil of Philanthropy

[to support Colin click here]

The African Centre for Biodiversity (ACB) has just released the report For your own good!, which outlines the GMO industry’s expansion across Africa. The report focusses on non-commercial traditional crops, such as cassava, sorghum, sweet potato, pigeon pea, cowpea, banana and rice, which corporations are attempting to genetically modify and roll out under the guise of philanthropy.
The report reveals that a great deal of research and development is currently underway into the genetic modification (GM) of these crops. Most of the on-going trials concentrate on drought and salt tolerance, nitrogen use efficiency, resistance to tropical pests and diseases and nutritional enhancement (biofortification). The key countries that have been targeted include Burkina Faso, Egypt, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda and Malawi.

The genesis of GM research into these crops can be found in royalty-free donations of various patented GM traits by several transnational companies to experimental programmes undertaken by African scientists employed by government ministries. These companies include Monsanto, Dupont and Pioneer Hi-bred.
Mariam Mayet, Director of the ACB, says:
“This indicates that the GM industry, under the veil of technology donations and public financing, is effectively managing to make further inroads into imposing GM on the African continent. By focusing the research on traits meant to ‘benefit’ farmers and malnourished populations, through inter alia, biofortification, the industry is intent on giving a humanitarian face to the real involvement, vested interests and expanding influence of these MNCs in African agriculture”.

Osteoporosis is Scurvy of the Bone, not Calcium Deficiency.

It saddens me to see older women diagnosed with “osteopenia” or “osteoporosis” listening to their doctors and taking supplemental calcium and even problematic drugs called bisphosphonates.  These are irrational, dogmatic, harmful approaches to the problem of degrading bone as we age.  In my time practicing nephrology and internal medicine, I saw numerous patients suffering from vascular disease while taking the recommended doses of calcium.  X-rays revealed perfect outlines of calcified blood vessels and calcified heart valves.

Pictured here is a calcified breast artery, often seen in women who are being treated for hypertension. The primary drug used in high blood pressure, a thiazide diuretic, causes the body to retain calcium and lose magnesium and potassium.  We incidentally note  these types of calcifications in the large arteries of the entire body, not just the breasts.   I believe these problems are avoidable.
